2-person sleeping bag

The 2-person sleeping bag serves a specific purpose: sleeping together in the same insulating volume without carrying two separate bags. Before choosing between a double sleeping bag and two individual models, a few criteria can help guide your choice based on the intended use.
Double sleeping bag or two individual bags: an objective comparison
The double sleeping bag has a concrete advantage over two separate bags: the body heat of both sleepers accumulates within the same volume, representing an estimated gain of 3 to 5°C compared to the stated temperatures. For summer camping nights, this effect is real and measurable. On the downside, one occupant's movements can disturb the other, and divergent thermal preferences—one person being more sensitive to cold than the other—are harder to manage in a shared space.
A double sleeping bag is also heavier and bulkier than an individual one: its use is primarily suited for car camping, van life, or stationary bivouacs, not for long-distance carrying. For two hikers trekking autonomously over several days, two lightweight individual bags from our trekking collection remain better suited.
Double sleeping bag: dimensions and sizes
A standard double sleeping bag measures between 140 and 160 cm in internal width, compared to 70 to 80 cm for an individual model. The standard length covers heights up to 185 cm. For couples where one sleeper is taller than 185 cm, checking the total length of the bag is essential before purchasing.
An XXL 2-person sleeping bag exceeds 160 cm in width, allowing two people to sleep without bothering each other and to move freely inside the bag. This size is also suitable when a child shares the bag with an adult—a common case in family camping for children up to 7 or 8 years old.
What comfort temperature should a two-person sleeping bag have?
The available model features a comfort temperature of +15°C, measured according to the ISO 23537 / GB/T 38426-2019 standard. It is suitable for summer nights in France between +10°C and +25°C: lowland camping, van life from June to August, and low-altitude nights. Below +10°C, an extra blanket or thermal sleepwear will compensate for the difference.
For mid-season outings with nights dropping below 5°C, or for mountain camping, a two-person sleeping bag with a comfort rating of 0°C or lower is preferable. This type of model is not available in the current selection. For couples' bivouacking in cold conditions, the extreme cold collection in individual models meets these needs without thermal compromise.
Extreme cold 2-person sleeping bag: what you need to know
An extreme cold 2-person sleeping bag with a comfort temperature below -5°C is rare on the market—manufacturers prioritize individual models for winter conditions, where a fitted mummy shape is essential to limit heat loss. A large-format double bag does not allow for the same air-tightness as an individual mummy model. For two people on a winter bivouac, two individual bags certified EN 13537 with a comfort rating of -10°C or less remain the reliable solution.
